Incredible First Week

Our first week in Durham has had it's ups and downs, but on the whole it has been amazing! It's hard to write about it without mentioning personal blessings: hitting it off with new friends that let us couch surf, both my husband and I getting hooked up with jobs within 5 days, being treated to amazing meals by visiting friends, and finding the apartment we now call home.

We've been so busy I haven't had the time to blog, but boy do I have things to blog about! I ate one of the most amazing meals in my life at FourSquare restaurant, was enchanted as we explored Duke's Gothic Reading room, was so excited to see how big Southpointe Mall is, and have generally had a blast driving through beautiful country. I can't wait to discover new places to eat (hopefully places that fit our budget), to meet more wonderful people, for the leaves to change in the fall, and to really settle into Durham.

About Me (In more than 1200 characters)

I usually find the "About Me" prompt pretty intimidating; Where do I start? What's important? I guess I should start practicing, though, as my job search will undoubtedly bring me to the interview question "tell me about yourself".

I was born in Brazil, but have lived most of my life in the States. I've never lived above the Mason-Dixon line, and if I had to pick a hometown I'd say Miami. Up until recently I'd tell you that I did most of my growing up in Miami; but I'm finding out more and more that there is always more growing to do!

The things I am most passionate about are my friends and family, my faith, music, and helping people reach their full potential. My passions have expressed themselves in various ways in my life so far: I studied Economics as an undergraduate, hoping to do development work after graduation; I have been a singer in various groups playing Jazz, Bossa, and worship music; I currently work as math tutor at a school for at risk teenagers; I have a phone date with my best friend every Tuesday morning; and even in my clerical jobs I've tried to treat every person with respect.

My first week at college I met the man that became my husband a year ago. Even though our paths crossed for a day we only got to know each other 4 years later! He is the most wonderful man I know and I thank God every day for him.

This summer we will be moving to Durham, NC. William (my wonderful husband) will be attending Duke Divinity School in the Fall, and I will be working at a place yet to be determined ;-) I'm excited about sharing our adventures on this blog with our friends and family, and anyone looking to make new discoveries about Durham.

Thanks for reading and enjoy!
